Background: Dr. Kellan E. Baker is the Executive Director of the Institute for Health Research and Policy at Whitman-Walker, which fosters healthier communities and advances good health for all through person-centered research and evidence-based policy. The Institute is affiliated with Whitman-Walker Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center with more than 50 years of service to communities in Washington, D.C. and beyond. Dr. Baker is a nationally known health services researcher, educator, and health policy professional who serves on numerous advisory boards and councils and is an appointed consumer representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
Dr. Baker holds appointments as affiliate faculty in the Departments of Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, where he received the Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching public health studies. He received his PhD in health policy and management from Johns Hopkins, where he was a Health Policy Research Scholar and Centennial Scholar; an MPH and MA from George Washington University; and a BA with high honors from Swarthmore College.
