In the midst of a pandemic that is disproportionately sickening and killing people of color and threatening all marginalized communities, we are appalled that the Trump Administration has issued a sweeping rule that misinterprets and limits federal laws against discrimination in health care and health insurance, and limits federal enforcement powers. Protections from discrimination are vital tools to address a system that has historically marginalized and mistreated LGBTQ people, people of color and indigenous people, non-native English speakers, people with disabilities and women. This rule takes pains to find multiple ways to weaken accountability and mis-inform LGBTQ people, particularly trans and gender expansive people, about their actual rights.  With the backdrop of a global health crisis and Pride month, this cruel action will only spur more fear and confusion and worsen the health of our communities.  The Affordable Care Act is still the law of the land and nothing the Trump Administration can do erases that fact.  Whitman-Walker remains committed to providing affirming care for everyone, and we will fight on to ensure that all people have access to high quality, affirming health coverage and care.
